The 2011 European Team Chess Championships were officially opened Thursday, 3rd November. During the brief ceremony, Mr George Mastrokoukos on behalf of the Organizing Committee welcomed the players and guests, wishing them success and pleasant stay in Porto Carras.
FIDE Vice President Ali Nihat Yazici greeted the participants on behalf of the FIDE President Kirsan Iluymzhinov. Chief arbiter Takis Nikolopoulos briefly elaborated on some of the important rules. Finally, ECU President Silvio Danailov declared the Championships open and made the honorary first move in the match Russia-Moldova.
